Aussie Champ in World Tilt; Macpherson Focuses on NZ after National Victory

AFTER beating the best Australia has to offer, triathlete Daniel Macpherson is preparing to take on the world.

Macpherson, 23, is Toowoomba's newest Australian champion after winning the Australian Long Course National Championships in the 20-24 age group at Huskisson, New South Wales, last month.

A former swimmer, MacPherson came to triathlons about four years ago looking for a new way of challenging himself. Since then Macpherson has cemented his place as a rising star in the sport, winning the prestigious Noosa Triathlon two years in a row.

Now Macpherson can add the Australian long course title to his trophy cabinet after conquering the 2km swim, 87km bike and 20km run course in a time of 4:12.09 seconds.

Used to racing over the shorter Olympic distance events, Macpherson was pleased with his performance at Huskisson.
