Tiger Cubs Impress on Debut

THE Tweed Coast Tiger Cubs played the Byron Magpies at their new home at Round Mountain Road last weekend.

It was a very successful day for Australian football with the introduction of an under-9 competition also being conducted for the first time.

The under-9 team began the day with an outstanding performance, thanks to some young footballers who display a natural talent for the game.

The whole team was simply awesome and it is probably unfair to single out a few players. We look forward to seeing them every week.

In the under-11 grade, the Tiger Cubs were gallant in defeat to Byron, 5.8 (38) to 9.11 (65). They kept trying until the end and can be proud of their efforts.

Best players were Jeht Wollington, Oscar Clarke, William Luff and Kyriel Pope, while Jack Fielding-Pim kicked two goals.

In the under-13s, the Tigers met a bigger, stronger team and were well beaten. They showed glimpses of good football but could not sustain it against such a well-drilled team, going down 2. …
