Disrespect Is Not a Winner

I'M a footy nut. Despite having worked closely with the game for more than three decades, I still watch most NRL matches each weekend.

And while nothing compares with being at the ground and absorbing the atmosphere, the TV coverage these days is amazing. Sitting at home, we miss nothing.

But during last Monday's telecast I was again reminded that some TV producers are negligent and treat our game with some disdain.

Twice during the Storm-Bulldogs match viewers were treated to Craig Bellamy mouthing the F bomb.

Okay, in a perfect world the Storm coach should possibly keep his emotions in check. But NRL coaching is not a perfect world and Bellamy is a bloke who rides on his passion.

The annoying aspect of Monday night's coverage is that both times the images of Bellamy were shown, they were replays. It is reasonable to accept the person responsible for putting the images to air had already seen them, and was aware Bellamy had mouthed the offensive word. …
