School Back in the Good Books; Shearwater Isreinstated to BER Program

THE Shearwater Steiner School at Mullumbimby has been reinstated into the Federal Government's Building the Education Revolution (BER) program in a sign it is recovering from its financial woes of 2010.

The school had been granted $2.5 million under the BER scheme, but this was suspended when it went broke last year.

The amount of the restored grant is dependent on the school roll and may change, Shearwater's development manager, Jan Roskott, said.

aBut it will be enough for us to go ahead and build a multi-purpose hall that really suits this school and this environment,a he said.

Reasons behind the school getting back its BER grant included aticking all the boxes, such as new governance, new constitution, the fact that the people responsible for the mistakes are all gonea, Mr Roskott said.

The vote of confidence from the Government is the latest positive move in helping to restore the credibility of the school, which was forced into voluntary liquidationowing several million dollars. …
