Roaming Pet Dogs Threatening Sheep; Owners ,Cyignorant' of Animals' Whereabouts

A SOUTH Kolan resident is pleading with dog owners in the area to take more responsibility for their pets, after catching a number of dogs terrorising livestock on her property.

Margret Le Pla has 10 sheep on the fully fenced four-hectare (10-acre) property but has seen different dogs finding their way on to her land every few days.

She fears for the safety of her stock, after a dog attack two years ago killed three of her sheep.

Mrs Le Pla believed the dogs were domesticated and had come from nearby properties, where owners let their dogs roam free.

C[pounds sterling]Normally there are two dogs at a time Co when there are two they start attacking the sheep,C[yen] she said.

The upset resident said the properties in question might not have livestock, and may be unaware of the dangers faced with letting their dogs off the lead.

She said she did not think the dogs were deliberately out to do damage but a C[pounds sterling]pack mentalityC[yen] triggered them to start chasing the sheep. …
