IT WAS a furious Bill Ludwig who lashed out at his council colleagues yesterday for adumpinga their waste management problems on the Capricorn Coast.

aI was the only councillor to record my vote against this decision,a he said, accusing the council of taking the Yeppoon community for granted.

aThis is not in our backyard, it's in our front yard. The landfill is only 4km from the CBD and within 600 metres of approved residential land. I can't support putting a super dump at the very entrance to the Capricorn Coast,a he said.

The former mayor of Livingstone Shire Council described the decision to extend and expand the existing landfill as a huge intensification and predicted there would be a backlash at the coast.

aOnce again it would appear the coast is not getting a fair go from this regional council,a he said. aThe landfill has been there a long time and was built to service ... about 20,000, not 120,000. It was our intention at Livingstone Shire to phase it out and turn it into a transfer station. …
