I'D like to reply to comments in the Chronicle by the two people complaining about their Metro Gold Cards going up in price from pounds 12 to pounds 25.

I too have a Metro Gold Card and currently pay pounds 25. It is about to go up to pounds 35. This is happening because I live about one mile from the North Tyneside border in Northumberland.

I'd also like to respond to BL, of Kenton (Vent Your Spleen, April 7), who said council tenants should be willing to pay a percentage of the cost of a new kitchen or a new bathroom.

We have been in our council house now for 39 years and the new kitchen and bathroom we got two years ago were the first major things done to the house since it was built around 1970.

Not everybody buys a plasma television or goes on foreign holidays! M WHITE, Wallridge Drive, Holywell.
