Surfers Smile as Swell Starts to Rise

WE'RE seeing some quality autumn weather along the coast and surfers enjoyed the light offshore winds we received this week.

Waves were in the small range early in the week, although mid to late week we saw the swell rise to about the three-foot mark and produced a few more smiles.

With winds light most days the surfers who slept in and enjoyed the later mid-morning surf seemed to get the better of it, while those that got out of town scored some gold, including myself.

The sand is filtering in to a lot of local beaches and through the lower tides there have been some quality beach breaks along the coast. It's worth doing a little homework this time of year and exploring the coast a little.

The sand points are still in need of some extra sand and hopefully with the southerly swell predicted for tomorrow and Monday we will see some sand move in around the headlands and start shaping some banks.

The weekend looks set for some stronger southerly winds up to 20 knots, so get out as early as possible in the protected southern corners. …
