laura.woodcock@eveninggazette.co.uk AN ATHLETIC youngster who is cycling 874 miles for charity was given a boost when his school friends took to the saddle to raise some cash.

Jake McGee, 12, is cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats in May to raise money for the Butterwick Hospice.

And to help him and his dad John reach their pounds 20,000 target, his school friends at All Saints School in Ingleby Barwick took part in a sponsored bike ride.

Around 70 pupils from the school's St Hild house took it in turns over four days to cycle the 874 miles Jake will face when he takes up the challenge.

Simon Lloyd, PE teacher at the school and head of St Hild house, said: "Jake and his dad asked the school if we could play a part in raising some of the money.

"We decided to get as many people to take part, cycling the equivalent distance that Jake and his dad will face.

"Each pupil or staff member that is taking part has paid pounds 3. …
