LICENSED music library Beatsuite.com has introduced a range of features in the latest facelift of its services, which include the ability to download music to iPhones.

The Newcastle-based company has been going since 2003, and allows companies and media professionals to pick up music to use in their adverts and promotional material under license.

And now the company, which is run from Pink Lane, has revamped its main product to feature a project manager that enables customers to vote and comment on music, while they can also download musical categories and previews to their iPhone, iPod or iPad for use on the go. Managing director Steve Bainbridge said: "We've been developing this version for three years. We've got streaming media so you can scroll through a track and preview it on the website, as well as add favourites to the customer menu and download entire catalogues."

Services such as consumer music streaming service Spotify enable music fans to listen to their favourite bands online and on their phones. What Beatsuite.com does is provide a service whereby companies can pick up clip-art-style soundtracks to promotional videos without facing the embarrassment and legal trouble that comes with just lifting chart tracks and sticking them on a video.

Bainbridge said: "A lot of companies now have things like Youtube channels, and Youtube have not been shy recently about cracking down on people that just stick unlicensed tracks on videos.

"You can't just grab a U2 track and put it on there, so we have a lot of companies coming to us to get produced music like action themes, classical music and dance tracks.

"A lot of it is made to order. If you want something that sounds like Zero 7 or Snow Patrol, we've got that.

"We commission composers to write tracks for us, and we also sign content from other companies. We're a publishing company as well as a distributor, and we've got recording studio facilities to hire for things like voiceover work. …
