A BANANA grower from Far North Queensland is using the latest technology to show the world how his plantation is recovering after being virtually flattened by Cyclone Yasi.

Steve Lizzio has posted his second instalment on YouTube to inform banana lovers about the regrowth stages as he rebuilds his farm.

In conjunction with the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, a banana plant on his farm has been identified as one that is quite representative of plants across the growing region of FNQ, in and around Tully and Innisfail, south of Cairns.

In his YouTube broadcast, Mr Lizzio says: aI will follow the progress of this plant so people can trace the growing process and understand why it takes around nine months from go to whoa before we can harvest the bunch to send to market.

aIn this presentation I start at the beginning, just where all FNQ banana farmers were after Cyclone Yasi flattened our crops in February. The start is either a banana bit or a cultivated plant and from there the plant will grow to around two metres over nine months. …
