A POPULAR delicatessen is bucking the trend of the worst British recession for decades by expanding its business and creating new jobs after receiving a cash grant.

Real Meals, which has been established in Saltburn for 12 years, has been awarded the pounds 33,000 grant to help launch a string of exciting new ventures which will initially mean three new jobs, with potentially more in the pipeline.

The funding, from the Rural Development Programme for England, overseen by Redcar and Cleveland Council, will help pay for the company''s premises in Milton Street to be upgraded with a new kitchen and seating area.

The shop offers organic meat and dairy products from local farms and the business will also use some of the RDPE money towards the costs of a bistro, cookery club and other activities in the community.

The owners are husband and wife Tim, 65, and Sheila Beswick, 63, along with their sons Greg, 39, and Dan, 32 - who is also the chef - and daughter Lorna Jackson, 38. …
