Gourmet Dishes on Your Camp Stove? Think outside the Tin

DINNER on a camping stove usually means heating up a can of baked beans.

But with more Londoners than ever set to pitch their tents over the Easter weekend, one celebrity chef is offering a pinch more glamour for their pots.

Simon Rimmer, resident chef on BBC2's Something For The Weekend, is championing quality cuisine for campers and has launched a series of outdoor-friendly recipes in time for Easter.

The restaurateur said: "There is a craze for people to be outside, whether it is drinking coffee on a break from the office or camping at the weekend. We have changed the way we behave and the natural progression is to cook outside."

The recipes include coq au vin, poached salmon with potato rosti, and lamb Madras, and they can all be made on a portable gas stove.

Rimmer, 47, who has written three cookery books, added: "I set out to show people that just because you are cooking outside doesn't mean you have to compromise. …
