IN time of need, you can always count on Ipswich.

In football circles especially.

English Championship club Ipswich Town, playing a level below the English Premier League, made a welcome contribution to our flood recovery efforts in sport.

The English club provided two 2001 playing kits, signed by their best 15 players.

C[pounds sterling]They were seeing us in the news and the troubles that we were going through,C[yen] Ipswich City Bulls supporter Dan Burnell said.

C[pounds sterling]It was the fans' idea and they put it to the club. The club responded by sending an official email to Ipswich City and the Ipswich Knights.

C[pounds sterling]Western Spirit were out of it because their club name had no resemblance to Ipswich.

C[pounds sterling]Two shirts arrived (from Ipswich Town) and one went to Knights, the other one came here (Bulls).

C[pounds sterling]Because we were relatively unaffected by the floods, we thought it was the fair and right thing to do to donate it to Spirit in the hope they can raise a few funds and do something good for their club. …
