THEY'VE got the bunting, the Union Jacks and themed party games as final planning for the region's Royal Wedding celebrations get underway. With less than a week to go until the big day, a plethora of street party organisers are nervously putting the final touches to their community shindigs marking the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton next Friday.

Among those possibly as excited as a big day bride is mum-oftwo Pam Nichol.

An ardent Royalist, as soon as the wedding date was announced she started planning how she could mark the day.

The 43-year-old from Killingworth, North Tyneside, said: "I knew I wanted to organise something and celebrate in some way. "I can clearly remember Charles and Diana's wedding and still have the scrapbook I made.

"As a 13-year-old, I was at the age where I thought Diana was just wonderful. At the moment Great Britain doesn't seem very patriotic, but something as big as this doesn't happen often."

Having spoken to other residents in the Hauxley cul-de-sac, Pam contacted North Tyneside Council in case the road needed to be closed.

Early on Firday, party-goers will line the street with tables and chairs, hanging bunting, before settling down to watch the main event at 11am. At 1pm the party will start with food and drink.

It will be a similar scene in other parts of the region.

Durham County Council has been aware of 13 street parties in areas including Durham Moor Crescent in Durham, Braemar Court in Consett, Dunelm Road in Thornley and Bailey Street in Tantobie.

In Newcastle there are 32.

In North Tyneside 31 outdoor celebrations are being staged in areas including North Shields, Howdon, West Allotment, Forest Hall, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and Benton. …
