WHILE it might seem like a title you would want to avoid, Erinn Tierney is working hard to secure the title of Queensland's augliesta bartender.

The 22-year-old, who works behind the bar at the Exchange Hotel in Laidley, is raising funds for the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland's Bartender of the Year competition which sees bars, hotels and pubs battle it out to raise much-needed funds for the leukaemia cause.

The acronym stands for Understanding, Generous, Likeable You.

Ms Tierney said her shirt, which reads a[approximately]I'm U.G.L.Y. I need help!' had drawn a few stares from patrons.

aA lot of them will say, but you are not ugly,a Ms Tierney said.

aThey get the giggles when they read the fine print.

aAnd they all have a good laugh when I put on the shirt.a

From April 29 to June 16, bartenders across the state will have the chance to get creative and spend six weeks coming up with their own fund-raising ideas such as raffles, happy hours and sausage sizzles as well as collecting donations from customers. …
