THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ -- THE TRUE STORY 9PM, BBC4 This gentle, rather scholarly account of the colourful life story of L Frank Baum, author of the perennial bestseller, The Wizard of Oz, draws comparisons between Baum's eccentric life of contrasts and the themes of courage, optimism and selfinvention that permeate his famous book. Baum's many and various careers encompassed oil salesman and window dresser, and he was perpetually on the verge of bankruptcy.
