Zumba Challenge Set to Break Guinness Record; Money Raised for Kids Helpline

IT is the latest dance craze and could make Toowoomba a world record breaker too.

On Sunday, May 22, organisers are aiming to get more than 1000 people dancing at Queens Park and in the process raise funds for Kids Helpline.

Fighting Fit's Christy Cotroneo will take the mega class for all fitness levels.

Christy believes the Zumba challenge will be a fun way to bring the community together and get active.

C[pounds sterling]I like Zumba because it is dance based,C[yen] she said.

C[pounds sterling]You don't have to be coordinated to do Zumba and you always feel good after having a dance while getting a workout.C[yen]

Christy wanted to reassure those who were hesitant about the Zumba craze Co that everyone could do it Co even those who didn't know their shimmies from their sashays.

C[pounds sterling]Zumba suits everyone,C[yen] she said. C[pounds sterling]It gives you a cardio workout, and is interval based. It isn't all fast movements. The intensity goes up and down in stages.C[yen]

On the day the aim is to get more than 1000 participants to take part in a Zumba class and volunteers are also required for record keeping as part of the Guinness World Record guidelines.

At 9am Christy will take the group through the steps and moves then at 10am the record attempt will start - 40minutes of non-stop Zumba.

C[pounds sterling]It's going to be awesome and a great challenge for Toowoomba,C[yen] Christy said.

The Zumba record attempt to raise funds for charity was the idea of Toowoomba students Alyssa Azar and Denielle Richards.

The 14-year-olds adventurers are embarking on the climb of their life this year Co Mt Kilimanjaro in South Africa, and raising funds for Kids Helpline along the way.
