THIS is the moment armed raiders carried out a daring daylight robbery on a security van.

Their faces covered and brandishing a gun, the masked raiders held up two security workers as they delivered money to a cash machine, at a Northumberland service station.

The duo fled with thousands of pounds following the brazen morning raid at the Spar Eight Till late shop on Station Road, Bedlington Station, three weeks ago.

Today as detectives continue to hunt the robbers, they are urging the public to take a look at these images caught on the shop's CCTV camera to see if they can help identify them.

The robbery happened at around 10.45am on Saturday, April 9. Two security guards were delivering to the cashpoint when the two men, dressed in dark clothing and armed with a gun approached them and stole a significant quantity of cash.

The men made off in a white Vauxhall Combo van with the registration number R421 JPT which was later found burned-out near the scene.

Det Insp Tim Miley, of Northumbria Police's Major Investigations Team, is urging people to take a good look at the van, tosee if they know where it was parked in the runup to the robbery, or who might have been using it.

"We hope these images will help us identify these robbers," he said. The white van was bought by a man on February 24 from a garage in Blaydon, Gateshead.

"From inquiries, we know this vehicle visited the Bedlington area in the weeks leading up to the robbery. The van has a distinctive black panel over the roof of the cab.

"I would ask anyone who recalls seeing this van after February 24 to contact the police immediately."

It is believed the robbers may have used a distinctive black saloon car, which is suspected to have been stolen from Cowgate, Newcastle, after they abandoned the van.

Det Insp Miley would also like to hear from anyone who knows the whereabouts of this car now, or has seen it at any point since it was stolen in November last year. …
