Fireworks Expected at Double-Header Derbies

RUGBY LEAGUE: Expect fireworks when two local derbies are played in the Mackay rugby league Skills Training Cup premiership tonight.

The Red Devils will host Magpies in the North of the River series at Norths, while Brothers are home to Souths in the second Pride of Milton Street clash at Leprechaun Park.

The matches have developed a strong rivalry between the teams, with the Sharks and Brothers even after a draw in the first round, while Norths are one up on Magpies this season.

There will be fireworks at Norths before and after the game, and parachutists will drop in to hand the trophy to Mackay Regional Mayor Col Meng before the kick-off.

A women's game between Pioneers and Magpies will also feature, and to round off the night a live band will play.

The day has been organised by former player Corey Vaughan, whose company Tamroc Mining Services is providing sponsorship.

Norths forward Peter Penaia admitted the club's form had been up and down this season, with only one victory, over Magpies, in four games so far. …
