PORT Macquarie jockey Terry Treichel had his ears pinned back, but still couldn't hear the horses coming behind him.

The 31-year-old went on to ride Black Passion ($4 favourite) to victory by seven-and-a- half lengths in a Maiden Plate (1200m) at the Casino Racing Club TAB meeting, yesterday afternoon.

aIt's only a tiny horse, but she has a big heart,a Treichel said.

aI wasn't sure how far I was ahead and I couldn't hear anything behind me.

aI let her go coming around to the last bend, hoping that would spring board us to the finish.

aI thought it might be hard for anyone to run us down and towards the end I still couldn't hear anyone coming. You never expect to win by a margin like that.a

The three-year-old filly is part of Casino trainer Ian Savins' stable.
