Killer in Domestic Dispute May Go Free in Three Years

A FATHER who fatally stabbed a man who tried to stop a domestic dispute over his baby will be able to seek release from jail in a little over three years.

Jason Ronald Trims was acquitted last week of murdering Martin Love on the Sunshine Coast, but found guilty of his manslaughter.

Yesterday, he was sentenced to eight years and four months in jail for the crime. Having already served two years and two months in custody, Trims will be eligible for parole in 2014.

Outside the Queensland Supreme Court, Mr Love's family expressed their anger at the length of time their son's killer would spend behind bars.

aIt's us who will have to live with the life sentence,a his mother, Julie Love, said.

At the sentencing hearing, Ms Love read a statement outlining the grief she has felt since losing her son in March, 2009.

aThe tragic and needless loss of my son Martin has devastated me,a she said, facing Trims as he sat in the dock. …
