A REVIEW of the current Central Business District special rate is among matters to be considered by Coffs Harbour City Council at its meeting tomorrow evening.

The current special rate for the CBD, introduced in 2000, is due to end in June 2012 and informal discussions have been held in recent months a with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, the 2050 Think Tank and council staff members a about if and when a special rate should be continued and what direction it should take.

Council staff members are proposing that the council should lead a more formal process to review the need for and the extent of any future special CBD rate.

Part of this process would be the establishment of a six person steering committee to look at a vision and priority direction for the CBD, review the existing boundaries, the funds raised and the impact of the past rate, make new proposals, develop a plan of action and make recommendations to the council. …
