Serial Pest Is Let off Jail for 15th Offence

SERIAL pest Luke McKie has escaped a jail sentence for his 13th, 14th and 15th street-type offences in the past five years.

Prior to the start of this year he had seven convictions for creating a public nuisance and five convictions for assaulting or obstructing police, all since 2006.

His latest offences occurred on May 3 when police were detailed to attend a disturbance in Baxter St, South Mackay, at 6.50pm, prosecutor Sheena Hayes told the Mackay Magistrate's Court.

Enroute to the address police were told that McKie may have a knife.

When they arrived he was heard yelling abuse at neighbours and he was seen to be aggressive.

As police officers approached him he ran off towards Watson Lane and into a block of units.

Officers chased him, repeatedly yelling at him to stop.

He was eventually found sitting down on a nature strip. He was searched but no items of interest were found on him. …
