GRAFTON District tennis juniors dominated the penultimate round of the Junior Development Series (JDS) Upper North East held in Grafton on the weekend, taking out six of the eight events.

In the under 10 Boys, Eli Fahey took out his fourth JDS title for the year, defeating a tenacious Izaiah Gilbert 6-4 in the final.

Eli had earlier defeated Isaac Huxley in the semis. Izaiah retains his lead in the series, while Eli moved into second place. Isaac jumped to fourth place.

The under 10 Girls was an all-Grafton affair, with the top four girls from the district.

Junction Hill's Olivia Blanch repeated her win from the Tweed JDS, defeating first-time finalist, Charley Tkalec 6-4, after Charley had led early.

Lily Allen and Norah Hegedus took third and fourth respectively.

In the under 12 Boys Louis Clark from Suffolk Park dominated the event. Playing with excellent touch, he defeated Grafton's Jacob Hegedus in the final.

Josh Crispin (Junction Hill), Liam Chambers-Ward (Grafton) and Jamieson Nathan (Maclean) were locals to make the playoffs.

Darcie Martin took out her fifth JDS of the year in the under 12 Girls, defeating Tianna McGarvie 6-2 in the final.

Tianna moved up from the under 10s looking for tough tennis, and wasn't overawed by the experience. Tianna snuck past Cassie Elward 6-5 in her semi.

Sarah Donnolly, from Junction Hill, was unlucky, just missing out on the semi-finals. Darcie retains her lead in the series, ahead of Cassie.

Grafton's stock in the under 14 Boys was low, and it was Goonellabah which took out the top four spots.

Jaykob Rowe defeated Marcel Cussinet 6-1 in the final.

Georgia Allen made her first appearance in the series, and although still eligible for the under 12 event, she moved up and took out the under 14 Girls, defeating Pottsville's Amber Molloy 6-2 in the final. …
