Mum's Tears for Hurt Tot; Man Denies Child Assault

A MUM cried as she told a jury of the moment she found her little daughter "unrecognisable" with facial injuries.

But she has faced allegations that she injured the toddler as she gave evidence at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.

Dean Cochrane, 24, is on trial accused of seriously assaulting the tot.

The Crown says he caused 68 bruises all over her body and fractures to both sides of her skull.

The child's mother said she found her daughter slumped with her hair covering her face.

She brushed the girl's hair away. Asked what she saw, she sobbed and said: "A mess.

"All her face was all misshapen.

She was unrecognisable."

She said she was physically sick after seeing the state of her daughter.

The mum added: "She had talc and pen all over her. It was all over her face. It was everywhere."

She said she also saw bruises to the girl's hip and arm.

Neither the child nor the mother can be named for legal reasons. …
