REELING after the shock of his crash yesterday Brisbane truck driver Graham Kirkwood was angry the Mary Valley Rd was not wider or safer.

aThere's no shoulder, it just drops off,a he said.

aThe road's uneven, you've really got to stay on the other side to avoid rolling over.a

His 14 packs of timber, just under what he can fit on the trailer attached to his Richers prime mover, rolled yesterday after the rear of his trailer was pulled down an embankment.

The crash resulted in his load of pine planks being spewed on to the road, while the cab of the truck and trailer came to a stop on their roof.

Mr Kirkwood agreed he was lucky to be alive after the incident.

When the truck stopped rolling he was still in his seat, the roof of the cab was against the road and he climbed out of the wreck.

But Mr Kirkwood blamed the Mary Valley Rd's unforgiving lack of road shoulders for the crash.

When the road was being built it should have been asphalt and made wider, he said. …
