No Relief for Warwick Motorists as Prices at the Bowser Stay Up

TOOWOOMBA motorists were yesterday paying up to 10 cents a litre less for unleaded fuel than their Warwick counterparts, as observed by Member for Southern Downs Lawrence Springborg.

Mr Springborg, who was in Toowoomba yesterday for the funeral of his predecessor as MP Peter McKechnie, did his own C[pounds sterling]fuel watchC[yen] and said the general price for ULP was around the 133c and 134c mark, with the cheapest discounted juice down to 129c.

In Warwick however, it would appear that global news of a dramatic fall in the Singapore benchmark fuel price Co which led to a nine-cent reduction of the national wholesale price on May 6 Co has not reached the ears of those who set the retail price at our local service stations.

Mr Springborg said it seemed like the fuel companies used the same method to price fuel as the State Government used to work out land valuations, as in C[pounds sterling]throwing some wood ash over the shoulder and consulting tea leaves and chicken entrailsC[yen]. …
