STEVE CUGGY is delighted to have added the "experience" of Darren Timmons to his Blyth Spartans squad.

The new Croft Park manager has signed Graeme Armstrong, Wayne Phillips, Liam Atkin, Chris Emms, David Coulson and Kyle Hayes.

Dan Groves and Neal Hooks have agreed to stay at the club, while Paul Brayson has joined Harrogate Town.

But landing defender Timmons from old club Whitley Bay left Cuggy purring: "The make-up of the squad is also quite young, so it is always good to bring in someone with that bit of experience, which Darren has."

Ex-Spartan Phillips is the other latest recruit, and he said: "It's great to be back.

"I really enjoyed my first spell at the club and I had no hesitation in returning.

"I've had plenty of stick on my return visits to the club, so it'll be nice to have the crowd supporting me, rather than against me!

"I also know quite a few of the lads at the club already and have played against the others, so it shouldn't take me too long to settle back in. …
