SAM QUERREY will spend longer than normal looking at the pictures of the tennis greats that adorn the walls of Queen's Club today.

As the AEGON Championships defending champion, Querrey (right) has a vested interest in the gallery because he now hangs alongside fellow Americans such as Pete Sampras, Todd Martin, John McEnroe, Stan Smith, Jimmy Connors and Andy Roddick in framed glory.

Querrey said: "I am on the wall with guys who are legends. The walls have a lot of Wimbledon and US Open champions up there and the names are also on that great trophy. To be with them is a real honour. Hopefully, I can get back on that wall again this year.

"I love the grass now after not getting on that well with it in my first couple of years. Every year gives you more confidence and even Pete Sampras initially had some problems on the surface."

Querrey, who will begin his campaign at Queen's with a match against Japan's Kei Nishikori, had an unusual build-up to his last grass-court season, preferring to chill out on the California beaches and only practise on the grass surface after arriving at Queen's, who are celebrating their 125th year. …
