Rockhampton Police Pay Tribute to Fallen ,Cyfriend'

THE sombre sound of bagpipes filled Rockhampton's St Paul's Cathedral yesterday, as a single police hat was carried down the aisle in honour of Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding.

The father of two died in hospital last week after being shot in the face while trying to stop an armed robbery at a Gold Coast tavern.

The church was filled with politicians, police officers, local representatives and residents who wanted to pay tribute to the Gold Coast police officer who had paid the ultimate price for carrying out his duty to the community.

Members of the Rockhampton Police read out tributes for their fallen comrade, who was said to be a C[pounds sterling]quiet achieverC[yen].

Acting Chief Superintendent Graham Coleman read a valedictory in which he commended Damian Leeding's work as a police officer.
