Costly Moranbah Home Not an Option

KRISTY Elliott considered renting a room in Moranbah but was quick to dismiss the idea when she learnt it would cost her at least $250 a week.

Ms Elliott wanted to live in the township and considered it a couple of times but in the end concluded it was just too expensive.

Instead, the 22-year-old dump truck driver has chosen to live in a mining camp Co a living arrangement which she said was much more economical and convenient.

Ms Elliott has been living between a camp at Coppabella and Mackay for a year. Her lifestyle roster at Poitrel Mine allows her to travel back home regularly. She works four days on, four days off and then five days on and five days off.

She said living in at the accommodation village was convenient but not ideal for the long term.

Ms Elliott loves having a meal waiting for after spending 12hours driving dump trucks, but nothing could beat a home-cooked meal. …
