NEW league leaders Whitburn aren't looking too far ahead at the moment.

Fixtures secretary David Larkin is quick to emphasise: "We're top of the league but we realise there is a long way to go.

"We haven't played against some of the tougher sides - we have Burnmoor, Eppleton and Boldon in the next three weeks so we will have a better idea where we are after those games."

The first of that set of matches comes on Sunday when they travel to Boldon.

"We didn't play well against them last season so we obviously hope to improve this time around, but we can't look past South Hetton on Saturday, who have been playing well," said Larkin.

"They will both be tough games and we're happy to name a fullstrength side for both."

One of the keys to Whitburn's success so far has be the form of Stuart Walker. The professional has scored more than 500 runs already at an average of 125, and has scored 350 since his last dismissal.

"Stuart is in great form, he's in his second season with us and we're very pleased with him and long may it continue," added Larkin. …
