RACHEL Sippel could just be part of the growing chorus of parents who think the decision to make Year 7 part of high school in 2015 is a huge waste of money.

The Boyne Island mother of two thinks a lot of money will be spent on implementing the change when the current education system seemed to be working.

Mrs Sippel's son Ethan, 8, will be one of the thousands of current Year 3 students affected by this decision when they start Year 7 in four years time in the new setting of secondary school.

aI just think it's a lot of money being spent on something that isn't broken,a Mrs Sippel said.

aI can't see the benefits of how it can really help and don't think it's going to make them any smarter.a

As a mum, Mrs Sippel said she was concerned her son was part of the cohort of students facing this adjustment and the possible first year hiccups that it could bring.

Mrs Sippel said it was a shame the students wouldn't get the chance to be the abig kidsa at primary school. …
