MILLWALL want Newcastle's out-offavour striker Nile Ranger - but they are not prepared to pay the Toon's pounds 1m-plus asking price.

Ranger has been put up for sale by United as part of a radical overhaul of their attacking options - a clear-out which has also seen them make Leon Best available for around pounds 4m.

While United are still waiting for enquiries on Best, the Chronicle understands that Championship side Millwall are ready to make an approach for the teenager.

Bolton and Leicester are also monitoring Ranger's availability and United are confident they will be able to move the England under-19 striker on before the start of the season.

However, with frontrunners the Lions unwilling to go anywhere near the asking price, they may have to lower their fee, which is currently around the pounds 1.5m mark.

United hoped to announce Demba Ba as a Toon player this afternoon,

while Neil Taylor's pounds 1m move from Swansea is all but complete. …
