A GLADSTONE man pulled over for speeding set off a three-hour stand-off with police, which closed down the Bruce Highway on Saturday.

The 23-year-old man was allegedly clocked doing 129kmh in a 100 zone near Raglan on the Bruce Highway, north of Gladstone, about 12.50pm.

When police officers from the Rockhampton Traffic Branch pulled him over they discovered his licence was disqualified.

Informed by police his Mitsubishi Lancer would have to be impounded, the man went into a rage, damaging his own car before pulling a knife from within it.

A Rockhampton Police spokesman said the man became wild and aggressive towards police, threatening to harm himself using a shard of glass broken from his car window.

The spokesman said the man then presented the knife to police and threatened to harm himself with it.

This resulted in a siege where the man sat on the roof of his car, continually threatening self-harm as police negotiators were called in. …
