Mayor Supports Pay Rise to Attract Candidates

IT WAS hard to find anyone on the streets of Casino yesterday who thought Richmond Valley councillors deserve a pay rise, but some do think paying councillors more would attract better qualified candidates for the role.

The council will vote tonight on whether to accept a pay increase of about 7.3%. The increase would see the mayor paid almost $32,000 a year, and councillors almost $10,000 a year.

Alex Dingle, of Casino, believes a pay increase is not deserved.
