Western Corridor Happy with Gallop's Possible Timeline

NRL chief David Gallop's revelation 2015 is looming as a likely date for expansion is encouraging for Brian Canavan and his Western Corridor bid team.

The Western Corridor team, along with six other groups, are readying themselves for a time when bids for expansion licences are called for.

That would not occur until the long-awaited independent commission was finally in place but Gallop this week hinted 2015 could be the year a further two teams could be accepted in the NRL taking the premier rugby league competition to 18 teams.

Gallop's comments give the bid groups a sign expansion will be on the agenda for the commission and the Western Corridor team, which encompasses the region from Logan through Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley to Toowoomba, is buoyed by the mooted timeline.

Western Corridor bid consultant Brian Canavan, who has extensive knowledge of the workings of the NRL through his time as Sydney Roosters chief executive, took Gallop's comments as an educated suggestion of when they would have to be ready to enter the competition. …
