Alan Little reports: * NO STRINGS ATTACHED (15) .... HIS father Alvin (Kevin Kline) is a famous actor, but Adam (Ashton Kutcher) works as a lowly TV producer on a show that is cynically jumping on the High School Musical bandwagon.

After disastrous previous encounters, Adam stumbles back into the life of medical student Emma (Natalie Portman) who once told him "People aren't meant to be together".

They agree that there would be no harm in no-strings-attached sex as and when the need arises and Adam's friends Eli (Jake M Johnson) and Wallace (Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges) are envious that their buddy has found the perfect woman.

Emma's housemates - including fellow medical student Patrice (Greta Gerwig) - diagnose imminent heartbreak, however.

This sweet and hilarious rom-com is anchored by winning performances from Kutcher and Portman whose comic timing is impeccable but Gerwig nabs all the best lines.

* HEREAFTER (12) .... CLINT Eastwood's cleverly constructed tale begins with a stunning scene in Indonesia and brings together the main characters for the briefest of moments before their paths diverge again.

One is French television anchorwoman Marie Lelay (Cecile de France) whose holiday in south-east Asia with her boyfriend ends in turmoil when a tsunami hits. Marie almost drowns and glimpses a bright white light and blurred figures before she is resuscitated.

In San Francisco, psychic medium George Lonegan (Matt Damon) turns his back on his "gift" which he sees as a curse; and across the Atlantic in London, Marcus and Jason (George and Frankie McLaren) fend for themselves on a working class housing estate while their drug-addict mother (Lyndsey Marshal) wrestles with her demons.

Gradually drawing together three seemingly unconnected stories, Eastwood poses tantalising questions about mortality. …
