COULD you imagine sitting there in your boat on a peaceful Sunday morning with a line in the water, only to be slapped on the head by a whale's tail?

Well, imagine the fear and confusion Drew Hall's family would have felt (see today's front-page story) when their quiet little family fishing trip nearly turned deadly.

Young Drew's mum told me she was convinced her boy was dead after being hit by the muscular tail of this so-called gentle giant.

As a parent, you could imagine a despite the shock of what had happened a looking at your child as he lay unconscious on the bottom of the boat because of something you would never have anticipated happening.

I mean, you can prepare for most things which could happen out there on the water, such as an engine malfunction or a leak in the boat, but it's a bit hard to prepare for a whack across the noodle by a whale. …
