Waratahs Convincing in Win over Coraki

PETER IRBY led the way as Waratahs ran out convincing 6-2 winners over Coraki in Far North Coast Hockey's JH Williams Shield.

Waratahs went to the lead in the early stages with two goals and maintained that for most of the half before Coraki's Adrian McGrath pegged one back.

Coraki tried to slow the pace down in the second half and when Mitch Harley picked up Coraki's second goal momentum swung a little to the visitors.

However, Waratahs were led by the most skilled and capable player in the comp, Tim Willis, and with Irby starring the home team picked up another two goals in the last minutes to nail home the win. Meanwhile, Northern Star defeated East Lismore 4-2 and Kingscliff knocked over Ballina 5-2, while the Redback drew 2-all with Murwillumbah.

Star led 3-0 at half-time despite East Lismore taking it to the favoured Star outfit. Star's Mitch Carter was being closely marked but he got an opportunity when his opposite stumbled and went to ground leaving him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. …
