KITE BOARDING: Andy Yates has had a tough time defending his world title but the Bokarina champion says there is still time for him to be crowned back-to-back world champion.

Yates, 20, burst on to the kite-boarding scene when he was named rookie of the year on the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association world tour in 2009.

He went even further last year, winning the freestyle title to be recognised as the best in the world.

But he is running fifth in the series after three rounds this year, with his rivals keen to take his scalp at each event.

aIt's all right but I want to do better,a he said yesterday.

aI'm not really where I want to be at the moment. I've had a couple of tough competitions and a few things haven't gone my way.

Yates, who is studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast, finished seventh in the first event of the tour in Thailand and backed it up with a second-placing in Morocco afterwards. …
