PRINCE Albert of Monaco today insisted that his wedding to former Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock will go ahead despite claims that she had tried to run home to South Africa.

The 55-year-old prince is furious at claims that Miss Wittstock, 33, had wanted to abandon the [pounds sterling]50 million wedding after hearing a distressing revelation about his personal life.

Charlene, whose father was a photocopier salesman, is said to have been stopped by French police at Nice airport as she tried to board a flight with a one-way ticket.

"Albert insists the wedding is going ahead no matter what," said a source in the Mediterranean principality.

"Too much time, money and effort has gone into planning it, and too many celebrities, politicians and royalty have been invited to simply abandon everything."

Despite this, L'Express, the Paris news magazine which broke the story, was today standing by it as Albert's legal team made no attempt to stop the story, but instead insisted the magazine reveals its sources. …
