THERE was a collective sigh of relief at Durham City on Saturday evening as they notched up their first victory of the season, a result which also saw them climb from the foot of the table.

Secretary David Parsons was delighted to see the club dominate the game against Philadelphia and begin what he hopes will be a climb away from the relegation zone.

He said: "It is a good feeling to get that first win out of the way, and as a bonus we are now off the bottom." The consensus from opposing teams so far has been that City have been a better side than their league position suggests, but wins and points count in Parsons' eyes.

He added: "Our results and league position stand, so there is no getting away from it.

"We have had our share of bad luck with the weather - in the recent double weekend we bowled two sides out cheaply but then rain stopped us from chasing.

"The signs had been good, but it was a real relief to get a win on the board. …
