Harry Potter Fans Rewarded for Wet Spell

HARRY POTTER fans who have been waiting in Trafalgar Square for up to six days today earned the chance to meet author JK Rowling and stars of the films based on her books.

More than 3,000 enthusiasts had gathered by this morning, and there were cheers at 10am as they were handed the first of 8,000 wristbands that will allow access to a red-carpet event in the Square tomorrow.

The event -- to be attended by Rowling and actors Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint -- takes place before the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the last film in the series.

Fans dressed in wizard hats and Hogwarts uniforms were forced to sleep on the pavement without shelter after the Greater London Authority, which owns the Square, forbade them from erecting tents.

Luke Zak, 18, a student from Minnesota, was one of the first in the queue when he arrived on Thursday. He said: "When I arrived I thought there was nobody else here but then I saw a boy in a wizard hat and somebody in a Hufflepuff tie. …
