AUTHORITIES are working to resolve complaints raised in the Sunshine Coast Daily by public housing tenants fed up with unruly neighbours.

The Minister for Communities, Housing and Homelessness Services, Karen Struthers, and regional executive director Peter Ryan said yesterday all public housing tenants had a right to live in a peaceful, comfortable environment with privacy.

Mr Ryan said action had been taken to resolve issues raised by six tenants in various public housing complexes on the Sunshine Coast in stories in the Sunshine Coast Daily last month.

He said action had already been under way in some cases before the tenants aired their grievances with the department in the newspaper.

After a group of Maroochydore residents complained about unsupervised tenants with mental illness, substance abusers, and a drug dealer in their complex, other tenants came forward with their own stories about aneighbours from hella.

Their complaints centred mainly on noise, from incessant banging on the floor and walls, but also included, among other things, verbal abuse, partying, intimidation, and sub-letting. …
