BOXING: Olympic representative and emerging professional star Paul Fleming makes his US debut this morning and plans to show American fight fans that Australians are more than just walk-up sluggers.

The 23-year-old Sydney-based Mooloolaba fighter boasts a record of nine wins (6KOs) and no losses after turning professional following the 2008 Olympics.

He may have signed with international company Top Rank after returning from Beijing, but this morning's bout represents Fleming's first professional engagement overseas.

He will fight Mexican journeyman Juan Jose Beltran on the undercard of the Brandon Rios-Urbano Antillon WBA lightweight title fight in Los Angeles.

Beltran's record is 22 wins (15KOs) and two losses.

Classy southpaw Fleming wants to show he can combine decent power and good technical skills, and excite patrons by fighting on the outside.

Over the past quarter-century, American fight fans have been thrilled by the power and non-stop inside aggression of several Australians including Jeff Fenech, Jeff Harding, Kostya Tszyu, Robbie Peden, Vic Darchinyan and Michael Katsidis. …
