STUART Theaker snapped up seven wickets as Staithes closed in on Division One leaders Ormesby Hall.

The leaders were not in action and Staithes - and Cowpen Bewley - took advantage to put pressure on them.

Staithes entertained Nunthorpe Merlin, and won by five wickets. Batting first, Nunthorpe Merlin had no answer to the bowling of Theaker, whose 7-47 helped dismiss them for 119.

In reply, Staithes had Tom Foster in top form and his 47 saw them home against a depleted Merlin side.

Cowpen Bewley, entertaining Loftus, posted 148, Chandresakher Reddy top scoring with 54. New signing Chris Morrison impressed with the ball, taking 8-37 for Loftus.

In reply the Loftus batting line up never came to terms with a varied Cowpen Bowling attack and with Ifram Mahfooz claiming 5-52 the visitors were removed for 91.

Smith''s Dock, entertaining New Marske, had Freddie Ramzam once again in fine form and his 7-28 helped remove the visitors for only 60 in 17 overs. …
