A SNARLING dog bit four people - including three youngsters - during a terrifying rampage, a court heard.

Youngsters were forced to hide on shed roofs and behind garden fences as the pit bull terrier-type dog stalked Keilder Close and Kent Close in Redcar.

Smokey, owned by James Hutcheson, launched the savage attack by grabbing a girl's jacket with its teeth. The dog ran off before returning to bite the girl on the arm on December 28.

In her attempt to flee, the girl slipped and fell in the ice, Teesside Crown Court was told yesterday.

On hearing the commotion, one mum came outside. "The dog ran at her and fastened on to her pyjama bottoms with its teeth," said prosecutor Martin Towers.

"It bit her on the underside of her arm. She received the most serious of the injuries."

After a five-minute lull, a 15-year-old girl emerged from hiding in a garden, thinking it was safe. But the dog pounced on the teen, who also slipped on the ice, and bit her arm. …
