What Should Council Do with QE Park? Opinions Wanted on Options for Sporting Complex

THE people of Casino are being asked for their opinions about plans for the long-term re-development of Queen Elizabeth Park as a multi-use sporting complex, which includes the construction of a regional football and athletics stadium.

Two options for the future redevelopment of the site are in a draft master plan which is on display.

Richmond Valley Council commissioned consultants GHD to prepare the plan for the long-term use of the 31.8 hectare site, including the greyhound track, rugby league fields, cricket fields, archery and river bank.

The two options canvassed in the draft plan would see Casino soccer relocate from Colley Park to the redeveloped Queen Elizabeth Park complex, while option two would also see construction of tennis courts on the site.

Option one, estimated to cost about $10.5 million, proposes to establish a dedicated cricket, AFL and greyhound hub within what is currently Queen Elizabeth parks No 1 and No 2 and retain the existing archery field on the riverbank. …
